Dean of Students
Reports to: Vice Principal of Discipline
Guided by the Student Handbook and the Characteristics of a Marianist Education, the Dean of Students ensures the faithful implementation of school policies, grounded in the principles of justice, compassion, and mutual respect. The Dean fosters an atmosphere conducive to learning by promoting good attendance, addressing social and behavioral concerns, and supporting the holistic development of every student.
In alignment with the Marianist philosophy of education, the Dean of Students plays a central role in shaping a student culture that embraces diversity, empathy, and responsibility. Through active leadership and daily presence, the Dean helps students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and grow as servant-leaders. The Dean also works closely with campus security and other key stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend scheduled and special conferences with parents, counselors, and staff regarding behavioral issues, attendance, emergency procedures, parking, and campus security.
- Oversee and enforce the Standard Code of Student Conduct and ensure all school policies related to student behavior are upheld.
- Promote good attendance habits and follow up on absences and truancy in collaboration with the Attendance Office.
- Monitor and address student behavior and social-emotional concerns in a supportive and fair manner.
- Lead the implementation of Student Support Agreements and other discipline-related documentation.
- Support the creation of a school culture aligned with Marianist values, where students are encouraged to grow in leadership, respect, and responsibility.
Oversight Areas Include:
- Discipline: Oversight of student behavior and related interventions
- Attendance: Advocate for consistent attendance; supervise the Attendance Office and maintain accurate records
- Safety: Partner with campus security to maintain school safety and supervise daily security operations
- Emergency Planning: Act as a member of the Emergency and Crisis Management Team
- Student Culture: Promote inclusivity, respect, and empathy across the student body
Campus Security Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the campus security team in support of school-wide safety initiatives
- Supervise day-to-day security operations in the following areas:
- Cafeteria
- School buildings and classrooms
- Parking and perimeter (in coordination with Chaminade Security)
- Locker rooms (in collaboration with the Athletic Director)
- Provide and monitor security support for extracurricular programs and school events
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist the Vice Principal of Discipline with annual updates to the Student/Parent Handbook and other related documents
- Implement emergency plan procedures in coordination with Campus Operations and Facilities.
- Other duties as assigned in support of student life and campus safety
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Preferred experience in education, student services, or a related leadership role
- Strong understanding of student development, behavior support, and school safety protocols
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead with empathy, fairness, and consistency
- Familiarity with Catholic and/or Marianist education is a plus
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Technologically proficient; comfortable with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and student information systems
