Responsibilities: Provide support for the Zoo’s philanthropic efforts and programs, with an emphasis on major and planned giving. As a member of the Development Department, a successful candidate must have the interpersonal skills to confidently engage with constituents via email, telephone and in person, and have a positive attitude and professional demeanor. Responsibilities include:
- Through the Zoo’s database, Raiser’s Edge, assisting the Manager of Development Services to run queries and reports in order to create spreadsheets and reports for fundraising events, programs and special projects.
- Generating, proofreading and mailing correspondence, with an emphasis on donor acknowledgment letters and tribute notifications.
- Working with the Director and Manager of Planned Giving to accurately track and record information about the Zoo’s planned giving society.
- Maintaining confidential donor files (both paper and electronic).
- Scheduling appointments, assisting with creating agendas and presentations and PowerPoint presentations for Board and Committee meetings; taking minutes.
- Data entry, proofreading, copying, filing, answering phones and emails, securing submitting graphics requests, and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Assisting others with technology needs, including setting up equipment and running PowerPoint presentations during meetings.
- Event support, such as generating mailing lists, tracking RSVPs, and assisting with registration. This includes some events that occur in the evening.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required, college preferred. 2-3 years of experience within an office preferred, especially within a development team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be proficient with a variety of computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Raiser’s Edge, PowerPoint). Experience with a CRM, preferably Raiser’s Edge is desired. Above average data entry skills and attention to details. Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, accuracy and attention to detail. Confidentiality is a must. Must have the physical ability to lift and carry 25 lb. boxes and to stand for 2-3 hours at a time for event registrations. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check.
