Position Overview:
The Church Nursery Worker provides safe, nurturing, and age-appropriate care for infants and toddlers in the church nursery during worship services, events, and other church activities. This role is essential in ensuring a positive and welcoming experience for young children and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Care:
- Provide attentive, loving, and safe care for infants and toddlers.
- Supervise children during play, activities, and naps.
- Engage with children through appropriate activities, such as singing, playing, reading, and basic learning.
- Change diapers and assist with feeding, as needed.
- Safety and Health:
- Ensure the nursery is a safe and clean environment at all times.
- Monitor children’s behavior, ensuring safety at all times.
- Follow safety protocols, including emergency evacuation procedures, and know basic first aid.
- Report any safety or health concerns to the Nursery Coordinator or appropriate staff.
- Communication:
- Greet children and parents, providing a friendly and welcoming environment.
- Maintain open and positive communication with parents regarding their children’s well-being.
- Record any special needs, allergies, or behavioral concerns for parents' awareness.
- Cleanliness and Organization:
- Maintain a clean, organized nursery environment, including toys, furniture, and supplies.
- Sanitize toys, changing tables, and other surfaces regularly.
- Assist with maintaining an organized nursery area, ensuring supplies are stocked and ready for use.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other nursery workers, church staff, and volunteers.
- Attend training or team meetings, as required.
- Adhere to the church's policies and procedures for childcare.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in child care, preferably in a nursery or church setting.
- Ability to work with children of various ages and handle diverse needs.
- Basic knowledge of child development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
- A passion for serving children and their families.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry children (up to 25 lbs).
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
- Capable of performing light cleaning duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Background in early childhood education.
Schedule:
- Hours vary depending on church services and events. Availability on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
