What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Advocate position at Saint Martha's?
The Children’s Advocate works to ensure Saint Martha’s fulfills its mission to serve women and their children who are impacted by domestic violence. Using a trauma-informed lens, the Children’s Advocate works directly with women and children in shelter to assist with case management through school enrollment; meeting health care needs; counseling referrals; leading children’s support groups; developing family goals; and building healthy relationships with the children in shelter.
Facilitate psycho-educational support groups 2x weekly for children – Monday and Wednesday evenings. Conduct children’s intakes, family goals, and family follow-up as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in a Human Service field, Education, Child Development or related field. Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) childhood development, play therapy, parenting concerns, discipline strategies, and the dynamics of domestic violence and how it impacts the familial unit.
