General Description:
The Department of Political Science and History at Saint Martin’s University invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning August 2025. We are open to candidates with a wide range of specialties, including:
U.S. History Specialist
- Focus on teaching a wide range of courses in U.S. history, with an emphasis on social, political, and cultural movements.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of course offerings in your area of specialization.
- Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong ability to engage undergraduate students in research and foster critical inquiry.
Global History Specialist
- Specialization is open, but candidates must be able to teach courses that explore global historical contexts, including topics such as imperialism, globalization, and cultural exchange.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of course offerings in your area of specialization.
- Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong ability to engage undergraduate students in research and foster critical inquiry.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Academic advising and mentorship of students.
- Participation in departmental and university-wide service, including curriculum development.
- Contribution to the University’s Core Curriculum, with opportunities to teach in the First Year Seminar program.
The teaching load will be 24 semester credit hours per year, with a reduced load in the first and fourth years.

Requirements:
- Education: Ph.D. in History (ABD considered for Assistant Professor rank; must be completed by start date).
- A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting.
- Active involvement in undergraduate research and scholarship.
- Ability to teach a range of undergraduate history courses.
- Valid documentation permitting work in the US from the start date.
- Alignment with the Catholic, Benedictine liberal arts mission of the university.
