What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher position at Saint Peter Community Child Care (SP3C)?
Overview:
Saint Peter Community Childcare Center (SP3C) inspires children to be great. We are looking for enthusiastic early childcare educators to join our team! We are hiring for both Teachers and Assistant Teachers. The primary focus of the Teacher and Assistant Teacher is to effectively provide care, activities, supervise, and interact with a group of children as a part of a teaching team. You will work with the Director and supporting staff in implementing a program and curriculum that meets the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the children. We teach using a developmentally appropriate lens in accordance with the policies and philosophy of SP3C, as well as abiding by the standards set in Rule 3. Follow directions as assigned activities and duties.
Duties:
- Provide attentive care and supervision to children in a childcare setting
- Create and implement age-appropriate activities and lesson plans to promote early childhood development
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and interact with others
- Maintain a safe and clean environment by following health and safety guidelines
- Establish and maintain good communication with caregivers through verbal contact on a daily basis, written notes, and/or phone conversations when appropriate.
- Collaborate with other childcare providers or teachers to ensure consistency in daily routines and activities
- Implement hands-on activities that develop self-esteem, conflict resolution and social skills.
- Implement culturally diverse experiences.
- Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
- Maintain routines and transition periods.
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding, diapering, and other basic care needs as required

Experience:
General requirements:
- Must be 18 years old and meet the qualifications under Rule 3 guidelines (see attached).
- Requires ability to read, write, and complete necessary paperwork.
- Requires First Aid and CPR training within three months of hiring and maintain a current certification.
- Requires ability to bend and kneel many times each day.
- Requires ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds several times each day.
- Requires visual and auditory ability to observe children.
- Must have knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices
Teacher Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree AND 1,040 hours as assistant teacher, aide, or student intern, AND 18 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- A high school diploma or commissioner of education-selected high school equivalency certification, AND 4,160 hours as assistant teacher, and 24 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- License from the Minnesota Department of Education for prekindergarten/nursery, or a license from the Minnesota Department of Education for elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement
OR
- License from the Minnesota Department of Education for elementary education without kindergarten endorsement AND 520 hours experience as assistant teacher, aide, or student intern if teaching children under school age, and six quarter credits within one year of initial employment if teaching children under school age
OR
- License from the Minnesota Department of Education for Prekindergarten Associate; or a certificate or credential for a two-year program from an accredited community college or technical college in child development or early childhood education, AND 1,040 hours as assistant teacher, aide, or student intern, and 6 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- Child Development Associate credential (center based or family day care) for preschool or for infants and toddlers from the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, AND 1,560 hours as assistant teacher, aide, or student intern
Assistant Teacher Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED AND 2,080 hours as an aide or student intern, and 12 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- Bachelor's Degree
OR
- Minnesota license as a family day care or group family day care provider, AND 2,080 hours as a licensed family day care or group family day care provider, and 12 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- Two years full-time of college coursework, AND 1,040 hours as an aide or student intern, and 9 quarter credits in a relevant field
OR
- Certificate or credential for a two year program in child development or early childhood education at a Minnesota community college or technical college
OR
- License from the Minnesota Department of Children, Families, and Learning for Prekindergarten Associate
