What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor of Specimen Processing - Full Time!! position at Saint Peter's Healthcare System?
Performs routine and specialized functions for Department under the direction of the Manager or Director in the operation of the Laboratory through supervision and/or performance of proper specimen processing. Provides administrative and technical supervision to staff.
- Supervises daily operations and specialized functions of the Department.
- Participates in the hiring, transferring, promoting or discharging of Sectional Personnel. Responsible for orienting and training employees, and establishing competency per Laboratory policy.
- Provides continuing education opportunities for Departmental Staff.
- Maintains Policy and Procedure Manuals.
- Participates in decisions regarding short and long-term planning.
- Monitors Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs.
- Participates in budget preparation and monitors budgetary expenditures.
- Checks general housekeeping and safety for Department.
- Maintains inventory on a daily, weekly, monthly or as-needed basis as determined by Departmental needs.
- Assists in the development or revision of methods for the Laboratory information system.
- Takes weekend administrative "on call" duty voluntarily or as assigned by manager, on a rotating basis.
- Ensures effective cooperation between the Laboratory and other departments throughout the Hospital.
Specifications
- AAS or BS Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or biological science strongly preferred
- ASCP certification or eligible preferred
- Three (3) to five (5) years Laboratory experience strongly preferred
- Day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel receiving and processing samples, including PKU/IEM sample management and timely submission to NJDOH
- Must be accessible to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve problems
- Knowledge of general hospital Laboratory operations and workflow preferred
