Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School is located in Muscatine, Iowa. We are located 45 minutes from the Quad Cities and 50 minutes from Iowa City, Iowa. We are a small, private Catholic School educating preschool through 8th grade students. 

Middle School Social Studies Teacher - Hiring for the 2025-26 school year

Department: Middle School Teacher                                Work year: 9 months (school year)

Reports to: Principal                                                      Salary range: Based on experience

Job Description:

Position provides social studies instruction to middle school (6^th – 8^th grade) students following the school adopted curriculum.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Plans and implements lesson plans for 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grade social studies
• Records student grades and attendance
• Plan instruction appropriate to subject and grade level and differentiate to the needs of each individual student
• Develop and employ multiple assessments effectively
• Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment that excites and invests students
• Motivate students to realize high academic and social standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents and school faculty
• Determined and dependable
• Passionate about working with students
• Supports and implements the ministry of Catholic school education
• Be a Catholic in Good Standing, who has knowledge of the Catholic faith adequate to teach its content OR be a non-Catholic fully committed to the distinctive purpose, philosophy, and spirit of Catholic School education.

Education and License Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Current Iowa teaching license
• Certification in middle school social studies

Experience Required: Previous experience preferred but not required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace. The ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift. Regular attendance on the job is expected and necessary. The employee must be physically able to react and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: emergency drills, student elopement, physical altercations involving students.
