Saladax Biomedical is a leading Personalized Medicine company located in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Saladax develops, manufactures and markets in vitro diagnostic reagents for oncology and neurology drug dose management in Bethlehem, PA.
Job Summary:
We currently have an open staff position for a part time (24 hours/week) Controller. This position is for a key financial leader responsible for overseeing and managing all financial and accounting operations within the company. This role ensures accurate reporting, compliance with regulations, and the implementation of financial strategies to support the company's growth in the biomedical industry. The Controller will report to the chief executive officer and will work closely with executive leadership to provide insights and guidance on financial planning, budgeting, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, budgeting, and cash flow.
- Prepare, analyze, and present timely and accurate financial statements and reports.
- Develop and monitor financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecasting updates.
- Collaborate with department heads to create financial plans aligned with the company's strategic goals.
- Analyze financial variances and provide recommendations to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and biomedical industry-specific requirements.
- Manage external audits, prepare necessary documentation, and address audit findings.
- Stay current on changes in accounting standards and ensure the company adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strategic Planning:
- Partner with the executive team to evaluate new business opportunities, such as product launches or market expansions.
- Provide financial modeling and analysis for decision-making in research and development, clinical trials, and regulatory approvals.
- Assist in securing funding and managing relationships with investors, lenders, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or CPA preferred). CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
Experience:
7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience. Experience in the biomedical, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry is a strong plus. Familiarity with R&D tax credits, grant funding, and intellectual property accounting is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
- High attention to detail with a proactive and strategic mindset.
