Job Summary:

Position for Field Technician (Radiation Technician focused) for McClellan Park Finding of Suitability for Early Transfer (FOSET) Projects based at McClellan CA (Sacramento CA).

This position will focus on supporting the Radiological side of work assignments and will require further training (i.e., Radiation Safety Awareness, Environmental Safety-Awareness and Compliance, etc.) which will be provided after being hired.


Radiological Focused Tech Job Summary:

In this position the Field Technician will mainly be focused on safely performing work assignments and tasks involving gamma walk over surveys and close support of radiological controls at various sites. The technician should also have the ability to work in increased weather conditions. The Field Technician will safely support the radiological side of remediation activities located at McClellan FOSET sites. Once onboard further training is required for McClellan FOSET sites.


In this role, you will:

Field Technician (Radiation Tech focused):

  • Adhere to all radiation protection and safety guidelines as per federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NRC, CDPH, EPA).
  • Once qualified, help support performing radiation surveys and ensure areas are properly posted to minimize occupational personnel and general public from ionizing radiation exposure.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of radiological materials is in compliance with Federal, State, and site procedures such as Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP) and SIA Radiation Safety Procedures (RSPs).
  • Monitor radiation levels in various work areas using appropriate instruments/radiation devices (e.g., scintillation counters, dosimeters).
  • Report any unusual readings or anomalies immediately to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and/or Health Physics Supervisor (HP Supervisor).
  • Always utilize the ALARA concept concerning minimizing occupational radiation exposure and follow the Radiation Work Permits (RWPs).
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and quality control of all radiological/industrial equipment (e.g., radiation detectors, monitoring devices, radiography, and GPS equipment).
  • Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Ensuring supervision is informed of any instrumentation that needs to be sent back for calibration/repairs.
  • Performing daily quality checks on instrumentation before field operations and ensuring control charts limits are satisfied.
  • Prepare and clean equipment before and after use, ensuring proper hygiene and contamination control is adhered to.
  • Assist with field logbook documentation.
  • Ensuring all survey documentation is completed and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring all field paperwork is kept up to date while in the field.
  • Adhere to all the expectations of the client.
  • Maintain radiation safety procedures, emergency protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Participate in generated scenarios, such as radiological readiness, and knowledge base growth.
  • Participate in yearly radiation worker training.
  • Communicate effectively with supervision regarding safety concerns (both Radiological and Industrial) and equipment status.
  • Provide clear and concise reports on maintenance activities, safety issues, and radiation measurements to management. Always provide: Useable Timely Effective Communication (UTEC).
  • Ensure all incidents or accidents are reported immediately according to company and regulatory protocols.
  • Always be respectful, professional and accountable towards the company, client, crew members, and client supervision.
  • Ensure general maintenance of the radiological/industrial site, including organizing workspaces and maintaining safe working environments.
  • Assist in maintaining protective barriers and safety signage around radiological/industrial hazard areas.
  • Assist the client with task as needed.
  • Support team members in daily operational activities, ensuring tasks are completed safely and on time.
  • Performing weekly inspections, surveys, and vehicle maintenance.

You will be a great fit:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Field Technician with related Construction Technician experience is preferred
  • Attention to detail concerning scope of work, paperwork/documentation, as well as usable effective communication in a timely manner, is especially required
  • Candidate must be able and available to travel 30%-50% of the time
  • Must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Position requires a work medical physical
  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required and or current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher certificate
  • Fieldwork may be required in remote areas and in rugged terrain, hot temperatures
  • Must be fluent in the English language – writing and speaking.
  • Must use legible handwriting on all written documents and paperwork

Training/Abilities-Skills:

  • Further training will be required and being current with a First-Aid certificate is a plus
  • Being skilled using various types of Construction equipment is a plus
  • Candidate should have a least 1year of experience in the construction industry
  • Must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Ability to lift/carry/move soil sampling equipment (approx. 35lbs) and walk to soil sampling locations (possibly 1/8-1/4-mile distances)

Location: McClellan, California (Sacramento California Office)

Travel: Limited travel is required

Compensation: $25/hour
