Job Summary
Reporting to the Packaging Department Manager, the Packaging Engineer represents the company in
such a way that embodies the company's values and beliefs. The Packaging Engineer is an effective
communicator who builds and retains quality relationships with team members and clients. The
Packaging Engineer is counted on to provide leadership within the company and encourage the same
qualities in other employees.
Job Requirements
The responsibilities listed are fundamental to the position and must be performed successfully to
achieve the key performance objectives of the role. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Accountability for complete project execution including system design, testing, equipment
specifications, documentation management, vendor/contractor management, equipment
procurement, installation and start up support.

Aggressively drive packaging projects to achieve time, cost, functionality, and performance
deliverables.
Ability to handle multiple complex, high priority projects simultaneously.
Develop solutions that consider the impact to the customer’s packaging budget, ergonomics and
packaging materials.
Provide Packaging Equipment Layout solutions that account for material staging and optimal
material & personnel flow.
Develop processes to support operations and/or use of equipment.
Create detailed packaging equipment, and assembly procedure specifications.
Ability to diagnose packaging line bottlenecks and recommend solutions to eliminate them.
Serve as technical resource for problem solving activities: root cause analysis, countermeasure
development, and solution implementation.
Identify process improvements for the client through identification of new equipment, better
use/modification of current equipment, or other means.
Provide procurement support for packaging equipment. (Request for Quote / Request for
Proposal packages / Review and approval of vendor submittal drawings).
Provide Project Documentation Development

Education/Experience
BS in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
8 Years of project or Packaging Engineering in the Food and Beverage, Consumer Products, or
Pharmaceutical Industry is a strong plus.

Skills/specialized Knowledge/Abilities
Essential Job Functions
Experience with High Speed Packaging in the Food and Beverage Industry, Consumer Products,
or Pharmaceutical Industry.
Strong working knowledge of packaging control hardware, instrumentation, and software.
Knowledge of and experience with primary and secondary packaging and package design.
Knowledge of vision, bar code, and other identification or inspection systems.

Demonstrated experience in Troubleshooting, Problem Solving and Productivity / System
Improvement.
Skill in effective collaboration oral and written communication.
Be familiar with and be able to work effectively with the following tools: AutoCAD, Microsoft

Ability to be self-motivated and work effectively both independently and in a team.
Demonstrated skill in coordinating projects across departments.
Take ownership of problems until they are successfully resolved.
Document your project related communications, both internal and external.
Working Hours/Environment
Position is based out of the Cincinnati, OH office, with Work-From-Home (WFH) available after
an onboarding period. Reliable commute is preferred.
Office hours average 40 per week; may require additional hours including evening and
weekends depending on business needs.
Work typically performed in an indoor office setting and/or client manufacturing site.
Travel
The nature of our business requires travel. 30% minimum travel, understanding in some circumstances a higher percentage deployment may be
required for the execution of the business. Salas O’Brien is committed to keep business travel to a
reasonable nature for the execution of the business.
Physical Requirements
Frequently required to sit at a desk/workstation for long period of time.
Light Lifting up to 40 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
Ability to be on one’s feet for long periods of time in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via phone or in person.
Ability to analyze unique situations and develop appropriate response.
