Duties, Responsibilities, And Skill Prerequisites
- You will be responsible for the design of Electrical systems for buildings. Specification editing shall also be included in your responsibilities. The size of projects and the amount of responsibility shall increase as time progresses working at Allied Engineering.
- Performs field work and site surveys for existing conditions, feasibility studies, proposal scoping and property assessments, assistance with third party commissioning, punch lists, and shop drawing review will also be part of your responsibilities.
- Generate initial rough project designs and concepts for development into working documents by assisting and guiding designers that will be utilizing Auto Cad or Revit.
- Efficiently plan, coordinate resources and organize your work as well as project designers that allows the team to successfully meet project deadlines.
- Utilize verbal and written communication skills to articulate ideas to peer designers and engineers, other design team members, contractors and lay people; comfort in representing the team in client discussions.
- Properly apply knowledge and experience with applicable building codes (e.g. NFPA, NEC, IBC, IECC)
- Exercise Auto Cad and Revit, MS office (Word, Excel PowerPoint), various vendor generator size modeling software and lighting design modeling software (AGI32) skills in a manner to assist with advancing the goals of each project.
- Work independently with advice of the Electrical Design Group Leader and with guidance from senior designers and engineers.
- Is capable of handling single person and multiple team member, large and small design projects and making competent
- Using basic design criteria gathered for the project and shared by other design team members, performs calculations for design of various components and prepares final drawings.
- Modifies design to project conditions and coordinates the disciplines of the design team.
- Must have reliable transportation available as project site visits will be required.
- 5-8 years of experience in building systems design and leading design projects.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required
- An FE Certification is required; plans to sit for the PE exam soon is preferred.
- Reports directly to the Electrical Group Leader
- Research appropriate trade-related information to further education and attend seminars
- Complete the necessary PDH as required to maintain each acquired state PE in accordance with their respective requirements.
- Assist with development of design team though knowledge sharing and mentoring
- Utilize office lighting calculation software (e.g. AGi32)
- Utilize power distribution equipment modeling software form vendors (e.g. Schnieder Electric Project Configuration Tool) as well as generator sizing software (e.g. Generac Power Design Pro).
- Maintain familiarly with power analysis software and report reviewing (short circuit, circuit breaker coordination, arc-fault and voltage drop studies); SKM, Easy Power and the likes
