What You’ll do Salem Academy seeks an excellent music teacher who is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community. The music teacher will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their manager: Working with and for Students: Developing and implementing curriculum aligned with MA Curriculum Frameworks Differentiating instruction Support, plan and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects Advising students through daily Connections class (homeroom) Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments Offering extracurricular programs in music (e.g. band) Teaching a variety of electives courses for grades 6-12 such as general music, chorus, keyboard, guitar, and band or strings instruments (preferably both) Supporting school events such as the City of Salem’s Haunted Happenings Parade and school musicals Working with and for Families: Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year Host quarterly Capstone events Communicate regularly with families about academic and social progress Working with and for Colleagues Build and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievement Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission Participate in weekly professional development sessions Participate in weekly grade level team meetings Inputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management system Who Your Are: You are a skilled educator. You have at least 1-3 years teaching Music You understand the importance of culturally responsive education. You are committed to standards based teaching and learning. Qualifications: Belief in the mission and vision of the school Relentless commitment to raising the academic achievement of all students Commitment to standards-based teaching and learning Ability to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful environment for students Experience working with a diverse student body Experience teaching general music, chorus, piano, and either band or strings instruments (preferably both) Excitement about integrating academics with service work Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students Eagerness to be part of creating an innovative and rigorous middle and high school program Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL Preference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above, and: Are multilingual including in Spanish and English; Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum; Have similar life experiences as our students; Have a Master’s, PhD or EdD degree; Have National Board Certification; Excitement about integrating academics with service work; Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students Salem Academy Charter School values a school culture that celebrates learning, and we believe that the adult culture in the school is the foundation of the school’s success.
