Salem City Schools is searching for qualified applicants for the position of Secondary Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
SECONDARY INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE TEACHER
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK :
Performs difficult professional work providing teaching and consulting services in the area of technology to both teachers and students. The Secondary Instructional Technology Resource Teacher assists students and teachers to develop and increase their knowledge of computer software, hardware, and peripherals as applied in an educational setting. The primary goal of the Secondary Instructional Technology Resource Teacher is to assist the classroom teacher and enhance his or her ability to motivate students to develop technological skill and acquire confidence and comfort in the use of electronic and digital equipment and educational software as powerful learning tools. The Secondary Instructional Technology Resource Teacher also performs related work as required. This work is performed under the regular supervision of the school principal. This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked.
Some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This job requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The teacher is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / TYPICAL TASKS :

- Support learning for all students by leveraging technology;
- Ensure equitable access and use of technology for all students;
- Play a key role with integration of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, VR / AR, robotics) into instruction and with yearly instructional application onboarding and support of staff;
- Provide instruction and support on digital citizenship education (e.g., online safety, ethical use of technology);
- Provide comprehensive teacher training through one-on-one sessions, workshops, online resources, and coaching;
- Utilize data-driven instruction to identify and address professional development needs;
- Play a key role in developing and implementing a school-wide technology plan;
- Align technology integration with state standards.
- Create engaging and innovative learning experiences that leverage technology to enhance student learning.
- Provide technical support to teachers and students, including troubleshooting hardware / software issues and resolving network problems;
- Utilize help desk software or other support systems to streamline support processes;
- Maintain and update school technology resources;
- Work with the available resources to gather and utilize data to guide instruction to enable teachers to use data to improve instruction;
- Work with the schools' Student Information System as needed for instructional and grading purposes;
- Help with setting up and supporting online SOL testing when appropriate;
- Serve as lead support for specific core instructional applications (ex. Clever, Canvas, PowerTeacher, Artificial Intelligence);
- Conduct workshops and teach classes;
- Teach digital learning integration and computer science standards to students;
- Help maintain the school's website, assist teachers to maintain their websites and learning management system;
- Help classroom teachers set up and use computers (both laptops and desktops), printers, scanners and other peripheral devices, digital cameras and other instructional hardware;
- Help teachers effectively utilize instructional software and the Internet within the structure of classroom;
- Help teachers and students effectively use the Google Workspace for Education Suite for both instructional and management purposes;
- Assists with computer lab schedules and maintenance;
- Enter class lists for instructional programs;
- Works collaboratively with individuals or groups to integrate technology into instruction;
- Create learning resources for teachers, staff, and students;
- Serve as backup for Computer Technicians;
- Serve on assigned technology committees;
- Help prepare technology budgets for the school;
- Assist with standardizing processes and applications;
- Apply best practices related to security;
- Perform related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
The Secondary Instructional Technology Resource Teacher must possess a thorough knowledge of technology and pedagogy appropriate to the level being served, including but not limited to education principles, practices and procedures, as well as a highly developed understanding of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and knowledge of the school division's rules, regulations, and procedures. The Instructional Technology Resource Teacher should possess an ability to establish and maintain high standards of student behavior; deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports, effectively communicate and collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and parents; develop and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the use of technology; foster creativity and innovation in the learning environment through the use of technology tools; adapt to the rapidly changing technological landscape; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students, and parents.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university. Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s) and / or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Possess a high level of competence in technology and computer science, as well as have organizational, management, leadership, communication, and human relationship skills.
