What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician/Receptionist position at Salem Eye Clinic?
Salem Eye Clinic prides itself in providing the highest levels of health care to our patients. The ideal candidate for our Full-Time Technician/Receptionist opening would be very patient-focused and possess a caring personality along with a keen eye for detail.
Job Responsibilities:
- Clerical duties: answering incoming phone calls, checking-in patients, patient scheduling, checking-out patients, pulling charts, insurance verification, utilizing our EHR system, faxing, copying, etc.
- Assist physicians to ensure maximum efficiency; perform preliminary patient screening, as well as other testing as necessary
- Record health history of patients; updated medication list; note abnormal conditions for physician
- Schedule patients to other specialist offices; obtain appropriate referrals as needed; communicate with other medical offices
- Instruct patients on proper contact lens hygiene, procedures, insertion/removal, etc.
- Set up and stock exam rooms for daily use
- Keep rooms and equipment clean between procedures
- Prepare patients for exams and diagnostic testing
- Ensure patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner
- Keep physician informed of patient's status
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of optical diagnostic equipment
- Return phone calls from patients in a timely manner per physician instruction, document appropriately
- Ability to calibrate and maintain all diagnostic equipment
- Adhere to Quality Control Guidelines, including all reports
- Perform other tasks as needed, in assistance of doctors and management

- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to maintain a very clean and organized work environment
- Excellent attendance is a must
