Your Role With Us:
Financial Clearance Referral Specialist
Primary Functions:
1. Submit notification of admission, status change, and discharge to payors following payor timeline requirements to ensure reimbursement.
2. Verify insurance benefits coverage for healthcare services by utilizing a variety communication means (e.g., fax, telephone, etc.). Obtain appropriate authorizations/referrals according to payor requirements. Identify potential medical necessity concerns and potential patient class (inpatient only) concerns. Collaborate with Care Management and others to resolve concerns.
3. Review admission records for accuracy and completeness. Obtain missing information as needed. Correct /update patient records, as needed, to ensure an accurate electronic medical and financial record.
4. Verify and address missing authorization for Outpatient Procedures.
5. Complete work queues daily to correct any errors with patient registrations.
6. Research and respond to all queries on reimbursement denial notifications from insurance payors within three (3) business days.
Background/Expertise:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an admitting office, clinic, physician or insurance office performing patient registration and insurance verification required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in patient registration and insurance verification or medical insurance billing required.
- National Healthcare Access Management or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (NHAC-CHAA) preferred
- Previous EPIC Prelude and Cadence experience a plus.
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent public relations/customer service skills.
- Keyboarding at 45 wpm.
- Strong organizational skills and the abilities to prioritize work and manage time.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and other information, as appropriate.
- Familiarity with contractual nature of HMO and/or PPO insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid, commercial, workers compensation, and other 3rd party payors.
