Summary:
The Lab Assistant role involves overseeing clinical laboratory functions, including receiving, processing, and prioritizing specimens, operating and maintaining point-of-care (POC) equipment, and coordinating microbiology testing. Administrative responsibilities include patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, billing, and ensuring accurate record-keeping in EPIC. The role also requires excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, handling inquiries, and coordinating referrals while adhering to safety, infection control, and HIPAA guidelines. Additionally, the position supports quality assurance, equipment maintenance, supply management, and assists in resolving technical or operational issues to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.

Clinic Lab Functions
- Specimen Management: Receive, process, sort, and prioritize specimens, including STAT orders.
- Testing & Equipment: Set up microbiology tests, operate and maintain point-of-care (POC) equipment, and troubleshoot issues.
- Registration & Documentation: Register patients, order tests in EPIC, and ensure accurate specimen tracking.
Clinic Administrative Functions
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, provide assistance, and direct them to appropriate services.
- Scheduling & Billing: Schedule visits, verify insurance, collect payments, and manage patient records in EPIC.
- Communication & Coordination: Answer calls, relay messages, and coordinate referrals with accuracy and professionalism.

- Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Monitor supplies and equipment, ensuring functionality and timely issue resolution.
- Assist with quality assurance, performance improvement, and data collection.
- Provide support to staff and promptly address technical or operational concerns.
