What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Specialist - per diem - eow/eoh-Pedi Psych position at Salem Hospital?
The MHS participates in patient admissions, takes vital signs and meets with patients on a daily basis as assigned by the Registered Nurse, to provide therapeutic and supportive counseling. The MHS may assist patients to meet basic ADL needs. Duties may include providing behavioral interventions to manage patients as needed and demonstrate knowledge and ability to deploy less restrictive alternatives in managing agitated patients. The MHS may participate in patient restraints as directed by a licensed nurse. In addition, the MHS assists with group programming and may act as a group leader, observing and directing group therapy sessions. The MHS also participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and attends regularly scheduled staff meetings. The MHS performs other related duties as necessary and as directed by a Sr. MHS, Charge Nurse or Nurse Director.
- Required: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Will accept 5 years of related experience in lieu of high school diploma/G.E.D.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or actively working towards or completion of a related Bachelor's Degree program in Behavioral Health or Human Services.
- Requires successful completion of restraint and de-escalation training required within 30 days of hire, and annually.
- Requires successful completion of AVADE Training.
