21C Internship Liaison  - Internal SPS Staff ONLY

 

Job Description & Program Goal:
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Internship Grant aims to provide high school students interested in the education field with a school-year internship. This program allows students to gain valuable experience while offering additional support to students at 21st CCLC school sites, which include: Collins Middle School, Horace Mann, Witchcraft Heights, and Bentley Academy 

 

Role & Responsibilities:
The 21C Internship Coordinator will supervise 10-15 high school interns throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting HR paperwork and onboarding.
  • Managing intern payment schedules, timesheets, and paychecks.
  • Facilitating bi-weekly workshops to support interns' professional development, focusing on youth development competencies and career pathways.
  • Coordinating site visits with elementary and middle school program site coordinators.
  • Providing feedback to help interns improve their work-based learning skills.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Extended Academics & Enrichments to develop systems and structures aligned with high school career pathways and internship programs.

Requirements:

  • Support student intern recruitment and placement.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the internship.
  • Participate in Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)-sponsored virtual training sessions for hiring and supervising interns.
  • Recruit a diverse group of student interns that reflect the identities of the students served by 21st CCLC grant funds.
  • Design and provide ongoing training and support for student interns, attending department-sponsored internship training and networking sessions.
  • Plan and facilitate bi-weekly workshops aligned with internship outcomes, 21C site SAYO outcomes, and MYCAP opportunities.
  • Collaborate with 21C program site coordinators to identify strengths and growth areas for interns.
  • Develop communication strategies to support intern success, including communication with interns, parents, and school-based support teams.

Qualifications:

  • Current SPS teacher or counselor.
  • Experience with MYCAP and Work-Based Learning.
  • Familiarity with youth development research and out of school time programming.
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and contribute to the team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to meet deadlines and complete tasks.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to commit to schedules and program requirements.
  • Open to feedback and collaboration.

Compensation:
Hourly rate (anticipated 2-4 hours per week)
