The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting a variety of departments including CT, MRI, and PET imaging. Individuals in this position assist technologists and physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. The purpose of this position is to provide patient care activities that improve the timely flow of patient through-put, organizational and operational efficiency specific to the field of medical imaging.
Duties/Responsibilities
This is a Tuesday - Saturday schedule.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting a variety of departments including CT, MRI, and PET imaging. Individuals in this position assist technologists and physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. The purpose of this position is to provide patient care activities that improve the timely flow of patient through-put, organizational and operational efficiency specific to the field of medical imaging.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of courtesy and professionalism to patients and referring physicians.
- Function as a contributing member in a team environment treating co-workers with courtesy, professionalism and respect.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Receive and secure the confidence and cooperation of patients during the patient’s visit. Anticipate and strive to accommodate the needs of patients and their family.
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
- Checking SRC schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room.
- Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collecting patient history, and reviewing all paperwork with patient; performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Assisting physicians/technologists with various procedures.
- Charting.
- Relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
- Fulfill clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include:
- Sending/receiving patient medical records.
- Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Completing forms/requisitions as needed.
- Verifying patient demographics.
- Managing to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
- Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include:
- Setting up instruments and equipment according to operating protocols.
- Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Ordering, sorting, storing supplies.
- Restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include:
- Respecting/promoting patient rights.
- Responding appropriately to emergency codes.
- Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with the appropriate individuals within the organization and/or supervisor in a timely manner.
- Administer oral pharmaceuticals consistent with established operational protocols and under the supervision of a physician radiologist.
- Assist with positioning patients on the scanning beds under the direction of a technologist. This includes manual positioning of female patients for breast MRI studies.
- Routinely perform successful IV access with two or less attempts, using sterile technique, for the administration of contrast.
- Extract blood samples and performs laboratory chemical analysis (creatinine) on patients requiring an evaluation of kidney function prior to the administration of contrast.
- Transfer patients using proper lifting techniques, requesting lifting assistance as needed.
- Ensure equipment is in proper working order. Report equipment malfunctions, initiates and coordinates service support.
- Establish and monitor quality control programs.
- Maintain paper and electronic patient records according to standard operating procedures.
- Confirm scheduled patients, retrieve comparison studies and relevant lab values when I.V. contrast to be administered.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and initiates procedures to replenish stock and to receive stock supplies.
- Provide assistance within the MRI and CT work units to facilitate operational efficiency.

- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years’ experience as a medical assistant.
- Experience working in EPIC (preferred).
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support certification (required).
- Standing 6-8 hours/day, walking, stooping, lifting, and bending.
- Ability to move equipment and transfer patients.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or less.
This is a Tuesday - Saturday schedule.
- Tues-Fri 9am-6pm & Sat 7:30am-4:30pm
