Job Summary:
The Mammography Technologist performs a variety of technical and aseptic procedures that requires independent judgment and initiative. This position performs screening and diagnostic mammographic examinations according to established radiologic standards and procedures and all federal regulations. The Mammography Technologist also performs radiographic exams according to established radiologic standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintains the highest standards of courtesy and professionalism to patients and referring physicians.
- Function as a contributing member in a team environment treating co-workers with courtesy, professionalism and respect.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Receive and secure the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures. Explain procedures, position patients for desired results, and cushion and shield patients from radioactive exposure as appropriate.
- Perform the technical aspect of mammography to produce optimal diagnostic quality radiographs for interpretation by a radiologist.
- Perform mammographic examinations in a gentle, caring and sensitive manner. Clearly communicate with the patient to avoid compression beyond the point of being painful.
- Ensure equipment is in proper working order. Report equipment malfunctions, initiate and coordinate service support.
- Maintain paper and electronic patient records.
- Independently perform standard examinations. Confer with radiologists to establish requirements for nonstandard examinations.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and initiates procedures to replenish stock and to receive stock supplies.
- Is trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support techniques.
- Assist facility staff in scheduling patients for examinations in a manner to allow for optimal flexibility of scheduling while maintaining high volume throughput.
- Responsible for maintaining and cleaning of radiographic and non-radiographic equipment in department as needed per department procedures.
- Maintain continuing education requirements as required by ACR/MQSA/FDA.
- Accurately maintains patient records within the EPIC system.
- Adjusts Mammography scan parameters correctly and as needed, utilizing dose reduction techniques as appropriate.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent ability to conceptualize long-term business goals and develop orderly processes to accomplish those goals.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Thorough understanding of information technology and information technology systems.
Education and Experience:
- Oregon Board of Medical Imaging Certification (required)
- ARRT Certification in Radiography and Mammography (required)
Physical Requirements:
- Standing 4-6 hours/day, walking, stooping, and bending.
- Ability to move equipment and transfer patients.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or less.
