TITLE: Director of School Nutrition
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrated competence in necessary tasks.
2. Three to five year experience in menu planning.
3. Experience with food purchases,food preparation, and serving of meals.
4. Ability and skills needed to lead, manage, and supervise people to support the mission of the school nutrition program.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas; OR
Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and State recognized certificate for school nutrition directors; OR
Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience; OR
Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in food and nutrition related areas and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent, Business Operations
CONSULTS WITH: Superintendent of Schools
JOB GOAL: To provide children with nutritious food in a clean, pleasant, and caring environment.
To maintain a balanced budget according to Salem School Board policies.
To provide leadership in the ongoing development, delivery, evaluation and improvement of school nutrition services district wide.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hire and supervise all food service employees according to district policies.
- Establish levels of cleanliness, health and safety, in accordance with regulations.
- Purchase food, equipment, and supplies as needed and in accordance with Board policies.
- Maintain an inventory of food, supplies, and equipment.
- Check purchase orders and bills for accuracy before payment.
- Prepare payroll for food service personnel.
- Complete required forms for federal subsidies and government surplus food.
- Plan and supervise the preparation and serving of all meals.
- Inspect school lunch facilities and operations to insure that standards of cleanliness, health, and safety are maintained.
- Standardize prices in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Promote and market the food service program and keep parents, students, and staff informed about menus and services.
- Implement free and reduced lunch guidelines in compliance and accordance with federal guidelines.
- Ability to motivate staff and coordinate school nutrition activities. Demonstrates ability to organize, lead, and communicate.
- Share with other members of the district leadership team the responsibility for positive and constructive school/community relations.
- Professional interest in keeping abreast of developments in education and in the development of new programs and the improvement of existing programs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Year, Full Time
SALARY: Established by the School Board
EVALUATION: Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations, annually
