Private Live-in Caregiver

Salary ranging from $35,525-$66,000 per year:

Occasional raises occur at the discretion of Virginia Department of Health & Medical Assistance Services standards. How is the live-in caregivers specific salary determine? Read below to understand what you will make.

The major benefit of being my live-in caregiver is that all income is unreportable to the IRS and not taxed in any way shape or form. That's correct. Zero taxes will ever be levied against your wages from me. This is a legal exemption from taxes given to those caring for a disabled individual within the home they also reside. The exact yearly salary that will currently (notwithstanding any raises or future changes to Medicaid benefits) deposit into your bank is $55,909.88 (equivalent to $66,000 taxed). That amounts to deposits of $2,150.38 every other week (for 26 payments throughout the year). 10 months out of the year you will receive $4,300.76, and 2 months out of the year you will receive $6,451.14 to get to this number. That amount is guaranteed personally to you as long as you are employed as my live in caregiver.

So how do we arrive at the above range of salary numbers? First thing to understand is that the top end of $66,000 is essentially the equivalent pre-tax salary calculated from your guaranteed $55,909.88. So essentially from the day you start your salary is $66,000 per year.

Starting from that number in mind, this is where we will explain how your salary range will be determined. I would not find it acceptable to put any live-in caregiver in the position of being responsible for me 24/7 without some respite. I currently have a caregiver on staff that visits me in the home and helps me 5 days per week. When I move in with a new live-in caregiver I am expecting to keep that assistant as a visiting caregiver. They are on payroll and make a fair wage for the time and effort they spend with me. When my new live-in caregiver and I move in together, the live-in caregiver will become responsible for taking on the payroll for said caregiver. That additional caregiver is your personal respite from taking on the full weight of responsibility for me yourself. We will continue using the payroll system we have been utilizing and the transition should be seamless and simple.

The amount that you end up paying for this assistant caregiver and hence the amount you make is dependent on how many days we negotiate she will continue coming to the house to give you a break. I'm not willing to bend for less than 2 days (6-7 hours in the morning) per week that she comes in to provide you respite. If you would like (or we negotiate) more days of respite you can see the below approximated cost and approximated ending salary (non-taxable paycheck dollars) you would receive after paying for her wages.

About Me:

9 years ago I had a spinal cord injury that left me disabled from the biceps down. I need significant assistance with activities of daily living. I can lift my arms above my head but my hands do not work and my triceps barely work. My mind works fine and I work full time running a virtual home-based business as a licensed mental health professional. None of my muscles below the shoulders are functional. I currently live with my parents, but I'm planning to move into my own apartment or house within the next 3 months. ​ There will be an opportunity to evaluate personality fit by first starting as a temporary caregiver working morning and day shifts while I continue to live in my parent's home. This would be our opportunity to assess whether living together is feasible. The below information about responsibilities is specifically related to the eventual live in position. ​ If you are potentially interested in this opportunity, we will set you up with a couple shifts during the week for you to get to know me and my family.

Responsibilities:

-Live in the same domicile (separate rooms)

-Live in will be responsible for no more than $750-$1150 of rent per month​ depending on the chosen residence in the Virginia Beach 23456 area. This will be negotiated before the move in occurs. Cost of utilities will be split. The likely neighborhoods to be moved into are likely in the Red Mill and Ocean Lakes area or a similarly located neighborhood among other potential nearby options.

- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting

- Administer medications

- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding

- Maintain a clean and safe environment

- Follow care plans

Qualifications:

- Previous experience in patient care or caregiving preferred

-CPR certification preferred. Training will be provided in the absence of a current certification.

Last notes:

I have family members that live nearby and are my trusted backup and the event that emergencies happen for myself or yourself. I will also be spending time with them on occasion giving you an added benefit of rest when I am with family. There will be occasions where you will be asked to drive me to family events and drive me home. These are points of the position that can be discussed and negotiated fairly. My family is also going to be willing to assist in matters of maintenance and management of the rental to a degree that is reasonable and when the selected landlord is not responsible for said maintenance.
