Student Support Specialist
(1 Position)
Qualifications (Required):
- Valid Massachusetts Teacher or Administrator Certification.
- Successful teaching, coaching, and/or administrative experience.
- Ability to implement positive behavioral interventions and support with restorative practice strategies.
- Ability to tailor academic and language development support for learners and support teachers in adjusting teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of our learners
- Relate/communicate effectively with teachers, students, parents, and administrators.
- Ability to relate /communicate effectively with teachers, students, parents, and
- administrators.
- The Instructional Coach must commit to being present for each day of the program. See dates below for more info.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Experience working in the Malden Public Schools.
- ESL Licensed or SEI Endorsement.
- Bilingual and/or ability to efficiently use language support and communication platforms
- Coaching and/or Supervision experience.
- Previous experience with summer and/or intervention programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the program coordinator and director in the referral process, student registration, and scheduling, ensuring that students' academic, behavioral needs and language development are met.
- Work with the program coordinator and director to identify and plan for the curricular resources needed, including SEI strategies, to meet the diverse academic and behavioral needs of students in the program.
- Plan, implement, and lead professional development sessions for summer staff prior to the program, focusing on effective academic strategies, behavior management techniques, and creating an inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the program teachers in planning and small-group instructional blocks to ensure we address students' academic gaps while also providing behavioral support and language development.
- Establish positive relationships with students while managing and implementing the program’s behavioral policies, ensuring consistency and fairness.Keep detailed records of all behavioral incidents and work to address underlying issues with appropriate interventions. Reporting any incidents immediately to the Program Coordinator and through open communication with caregivers.
- Assist teachers in administering formative and summative assessments, providing guidance on how to track both academic progress and behavioral outcomes within small-group and whole-group settings.
- Review and analyze pre- and post-program data to evaluate student progress, making recommendations for future support strategies based on both academic achievements and behavioral growth for students.
- Supervise instructional implementation during the duration of the program.
Duration:
Program Administration and Implementation 136 hours total to include the following:
· Pre/Post Program Work: 30 hours (February 24 – August 22). [$1100]
· 6 hours of delivery of PD and Teacher Planning [$220]
· 20 days, Monday-Thursday, June 30 – July 31 (7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) [$3700]
Salary: $37/hour, $5,020 total
