Primary Duties And Respon-sibilities
- Operates school bus in a safe and careful manner, particularly watching for the safety of the children when loading or unloading.
- Sees that traffic violations regarding bus regulations are reported to the proper authorities.
- Checks bus brakes, lights, gas, oil, water to see that they operate properly before starting on a trip.
- Completes bus checklist.
- Maintains order on the bus.
- Escorts children across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.
- Maintains cleanliness on interior and exterior of bus.
- Prepares reports related to job.
- Attends and completes necessary training as required by law.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge of
- Rules and regulations pertaining to Pupil Transportation, State of California.
- Safety and traffic laws.
- Maintenance of trucks and/or buses.
- Safe driving practices.
- Basic preventive maintenance requirements for school buses.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others.
- Be courteous, neat and clean at all times while working for the district.
- Be dependable, industrious and in good physical condition.
- Be tactful, use good judgment, exhibit integrity and resourcefulness.
- Determine the need for maintenance and repair of assigned bus and equipment.
- Lift 60-100 pounds.
Requirements
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions:
- Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 60 – 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- This type of work may involve ascending descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve walking or standing for extending periods.
- Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- High school graduate
- Valid California School Bus Driver's Certificate
- Valid California Class B driver's license.
- First Aid Certificate acceptable to the CHP.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
