Job Summary
Specific duties assigned by the County Attorney and may include but are not limited to one or more of the following assignments: Juvenile Offender, Traffic, Child in Need of Care (CINC), Trial Assistant, Discovery, Victim/Witness Services, Adult Criminal, Forfeiture, Care and Treatment and Restitution. The Paralegal I will prepare documents and perform tasks as assigned with oversight by a Paralegal II or Office Manager.
Responsibilities may include: Coordinate detention hearings with intake staff, detention staff, parents, court staff and defense attorney. Prepare juvenile offender complaints and file with juvenile section of District Court. Prepare appropriate notices. Attend court proceedings. Check website and download all appellant pleadings. Maintain and organize legal files and documents. Print reports. Copy all audio/video/photo evidence. Prepare paperwork on all traffic cases. Pull traffic docket and maintain traffic files. Review truancy reports and prepare cases as directed by prosecutor. Receive request for filing Child in Need of Care cases from DCP or law enforcement agency. Assist the attorney staff by preparing trial notebooks, power point presentations and trial exhibits. - Serve as an advocate of victim rights and services. Provide information relating to the court process and provide notifications of court hearings, courtroom familiairization tours and court accompaniment. Assist victims in determining a monetary loss resulting from a crime. Investigate and verify the monetary loss. Prepare forreiture petitions, prepare legan notices. Responsibile for overseeing all adult criminal work. Prepare complaints, warrants, orders, motions and journal entries in adult criminal cases. Responsible for extradition process, paperwork, coordination of transportation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
2. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred. May substitute prior experience as a para legal.
3. A proven ability to work with a variety of people in stressful situations.
4. Proven organizational skills.
5. Knowledge of Kansas criminal law and procedures.
6. An ability to redact audio/video files as part of trial preparation.
7. An ability to listen to and assist without judgement.
8. An ability to prepare documents and correspondence with little supervision.
9. Must have strong communication skills and be able to work with the public in a congenial manner.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.95 - $26.97 per hour
