General Summary:
The Human Resources Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the Director of Human Resources to provide programs and services to SKC employees.
The Human Resource Benefits Specialist provides Personnel/Human Resource services to full time, part time and student employees. Examples of responsibilities include: ensuring position descriptions are current, evaluations are on file, process faculty/staff offer letters. Serve as plan assistant for retirement, health, vision, dental insurance, workers compensation, employee assistance program and SKC Drug/Alcohol Testing policy and facilitating follow up counseling, if recommended.
This position will maintain and coordinate data gathering, management and utilization of databases, and extensive knowledge of computer operations. Develops, expedites, and maintains files, records, and other documents. Performs benefit processes requiring good judgment. All data entry is performed weekly so that information is up to date and accurate and available to the HR Director. Uses good human-relations and problem-solving skills in the application of established policies and procedures. Exercises responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of benefits, and other related matters. Provides day-to-day advice, assistance, and follow-up to departments, employees, external agencies, and/or members of the general public in the application of specified policies, procedures, and documentation. Perform and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision, after tasks are prioritized with supervisor. Must be able to deviate from tasks at any time to serve employees and students who are walk in priorities for HR availability and information.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs clerical and administrative support duties necessary for the operation of the department. This includes general office duties, front desk duties, and data entry, as well as maintenance of employee records (benefits, medical, etc.)
Prepares documents and composes correspondence, as required, on specific policy and procedural issues.
Processes employee enrollment, changes, termination of benefit plans.
Coordinating open enrollment periods and facilitate benefit presentations.
Processes and tracks leave requests (status, documentation, and leave balances) to ensure compliance.
Assists with the interactive process for reasonable accommodations, maintains documentation, requests, and actions taken.
Assists with employee exit process and interviews, including collecting and maintaining documentation and feedback.
Prepares and submits required reports for state and government benefit programs timely.
Assists with the administration of retirement plan enrollments, changes, and terminations.
Ensures compliance with all reporting deadlines and requirements.
Responds to inquiries regarding procedures, programs, and general questions.
Supports with general HR benefit training.
Assist with staff, faculty recruitment and selection.
New Employee onboarding and orientation and departmental projects.
Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
Assists Human Resources department with requests, projects and reports as needed.
Assists in Human Resources College wide activities such as In-Service, Employee Recognition ceremony, etc.
Assist with Title IX policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business or closely related field. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
At least three years successful experience in human resources and/or employee benefits and leave administration experience.
Proficient in computer software applications; google suite, excel, databases including Jenzabar, and kissflow.
Demonstrated skill and experience with employee relation and conflict resolution.
Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other relevant employment laws.
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
Possess excellent telephone, written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of office administration procedures.
Must have strong attention to detail, maintain high level of accuracy, and possess solid organizational skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees within the Human Resources department, employees of other divisions, and general public.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
