Security Officer Part-Time

Salary Range: $13.20-$14.54 DOEE

General Summary:

Campus Security routinely does checks of campus buildings and property. This includes but is not limited to buildings-windows, doors and building alarm systems along with routine checks for fire and safety. These checks take place at alternating times. While on patrol, security will approach and identify any/all individuals and/or vehicles within campus boundaries. Security patrol any new construction areas and buildings to insure the unauthorized entry of children and or adults. Security Officer will contact Tribal Police, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services and Fire Departments for assistance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must as Security has to communicate with patrons of SKC, police and write reports on incidents. SKC Security is a 24/7/365 program and a part-time position. The officer must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a regular basis.

Major Duties of Security Officers:

  • Observe and Reporting: Notify supervisor of incidents.

  • Listen to scanner and respond and Assist any Emergency on Campus.

  • Maintain professionalism including appearance and personal hygiene. Punctuality. Kind and courteous demeanor.

  • Crime prevention.

  • Crime or SKC policies violation reporting.

  • Writing detailed reports related to any incident on campus within 24 hours of the incident. Including incidents where Law and Order are on campus to handle a situation.

  • Securing and alarming campus facilities.

  • 24-hour campus wide patrol with emphasis on housing.

  • Routine checks for Fire and Safety.

  • Escorting service for students and staff with conditions that require transportation or Security.

  • Unlocking units/dorms for students.

  • Documenting any and ALL fines for services rendered.

  • Deliver U.S. mail and SKC notices for student housing.

  • Traffic control/enforcement.

  • Parking enforcement.

  • Respond to alarms received from Mission Valley Security.

  • Maintain good working relationship with local law enforcement.

  • Jumping vehicles with low batteries.

  • Make contact and identify all residents in campus housing.

  • Make contact and identify any patron to SKC Campus.

  • Assist local law enforcement in identification and apprehension of any SKC policy violator.

  • WILL attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.

  • Maintain company vehicle and report and damage, irregular use, or needed repairs to supervisor.

  • Requests for equipment or materials to the supervisor.

  • Referral of all inter-departmental staff issues to Director.

  • Read and understand all SKC Policies including Master Policy, Security, and Housing Manual Policy and Procedure.

  • Coordinating any foreseen absence and/or schedule variance with supervisor. Trading shifts is only to be done with officer trained in same shift. Exceptions only allowed by supervisor.

  • No abandoning of post until it is properly relieved.

  • Will remain on SKC Campus at all times during shift unless otherwise authorized.

  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must not have any felonies or misdemeanor convictions in the last five years.

  • Must not have any pending criminal misdemeanor or felony charges.

  • Position can be physically demanding and officers must be able to perform foot patrol in all types of weather.

  • Must be able to pass background check for criminal crimes.

  • Officers must maintain a neat appearance on the job.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and punctual.

Preferred Skills:

  • First Aid and CPR experience with preference for first responder training.

  • Experience enforcing safety and security regulations, codes and standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None- Individual is responsible for the safety and well-being of all SKC campus patrons.
