What You'll Contribute
- Sallie Mae Bank’s Internal Audit department works to promote an effective control environment through risk-based audits, internal control testing, pre and post implementation reviews, special projects and risk and control education.
The Manager, Internal Audit Operations will report to the Director, Internal Audit and will be responsible for the management and execution of Internal Audit’s Quality Assurance Program.
What You'll Do

Management and Execution of Quality Assurance program:
- Perform Risk Assessment activities to develop annual Quality Assurance plan
- Execute the completion of the annual Quality Assurance plan (which consists of various quarterly and ad hoc reviews)
- Track the completion of required remedial actions based on outcomes of Quality reviews through to completion (and in adherence with all procedural tracking and escalation processes)
- Provide feedback to project teams based on results of individual Quality Assurance reviews and share quarterly updates with department on aggregated QA results and trends
- Leads the planning, execution, and reporting of the annual internal assessment of the Internal Audit department against the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)
- Keep Director apprised of progress and proactively escalate concerns, timing/resource constraints, etc. as they arise

People Management
- Oversee the work of senior or staff auditors on Quality Assurance team to complete the execution, tracking, and reporting of Quality Assurance activities

Provide balanced, effective oversight and personalized support of direct report(s)
- Provide timely feedback that aligns with expectations of internal audit talent profile and specific job responsibilities
- Provide recognition and meaningfully address any opportunities noted
- Work with direct report(s) to develop their skillsets and goals

- Fulfills administrative responsibilities, as defined.
- Remains current in profession and industry trends with a particular focus on laws and regulations applicable to the Company.
- Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.

What You Have
Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- 5 years of auditing experience
- 2-3 years supervisory experience
- Experience in public accounting, internal audit, financial services industry or student loan industry
- Strong understanding of IIA IPPF and regulatory guidance for internal audit activities
- Sound consultation, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, execute multiple topics/issues simultaneously
- Supervisory experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and willingness to travel out of town on a periodic, as needed, basis (approximately 30% of the time)
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- CPA, CIA, CRCM, CISA, CFE, etc. professional designation acquired or actively pursuing a relevant certification
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- Auditing experience in financial services
- Experience working in risk management and/or Sarbanes-Oxley function
- Experience with planning and executing accounting and/or finance audits and assessing audit results
- CIA designation
