JOB DESCRIPTION

This position provides technical expertise for product safety assessments and ensures chemical ingredient regulatory compliance. This is a hybrid role, reporting into the office in Denton, Tx on Tuesdays and Weds of the work week.

Primary Duties

• Develop & maintain Oracle database to house chemical ingredient safety & regulatory information. Interact with vendors/raw material manufacturers and obtain all necessary technical information. Research available literature for safety data on ingredients. Reviews & summarizes safety data from all sources.
• Work closely with Merchandizing Department on private label product development. Evaluate quantitative formulas for regulatory compliance and safety assessment of the products.
• Maintain fragrance database in Oracle. Interact with vendors to obtain IFRA compliance certificate and other documents for safety evaluation of each fragrance composition. Obtain semi-quantitative fragrance disclosure & enter in the database. Assess product impact as per IFRA annual amendment and other regulations affecting fragrances.
• Research & maintain up-to-date ingredient regulatory status from various US & international regulatory agencies
• Prepare or gather safety assessment for each private label product as required by MoCRA.
• Maintain a close watch on developing science/toxicology issues related to cosmetic ingredients. Respond to PCPC and other ingredient use surveys.
• Provide safety testing and claim substantiation support for private label products. Select and qualify outside labs to perform required studies. Follow up with vendors on safety testing reports, review and approve safety test reports.
  
  

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, chemistry or biochemistry required.
• 0-5 years of relevant industry experience.
• Understanding of pre-clinical & clinical studies and able to summarize findings accurately. Experience in US and international regulatory issues is a plus
• Good knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and database systems like Oracle PLM, JDA PMM, etc.
• Versed in various Internet literature search engines.
• Good writing ability, communication skills, and organization skills. Must be familiar with chemical names and technical terms.

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements

• The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
• The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
