Interpreter Coordinator / Staff Interpreter

The Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center (DHHC) provides essential services to individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across five counties. We are committed to ensuring communication access and creating an inclusive community.
Position Summary
We are seeking an organized, proactive, and highly skilled Interpreter Coordinator/Staff Interpreter to manage interpreter scheduling and provide direct interpreting services. This dual role requires strong administrative coordination and a qualified interpreter with fluency and mastery in American Sign Language (ASL).
Key Responsibilities
Interpreter Coordination Responsibilities
- Manage interpreter scheduling for appointments, meetings, and events.
- Recruit and onboard interpreters while providing basic training on agency expectations.
- Monitor service quality and provide feedback to ensure professionalism.
- Serve as the primary contact for clients requesting interpreter services.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of interpreter credentials, assignments and service usage.
- Increase awareness of interpreting services and advocate for accessibility.
Staff Interpreter Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality interpreting services in various settings as needed.
- Demonstrate mastery of ASL and cultural competency to ensure effective communication.
- Follow the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and uphold ethical interpreting standards.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet diverse client needs.
- Assist in training and mentoring new interpreters as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a qualified interpreter with fluency and mastery of American Sign Language (ASL).
- Intermediate PC skills (Microsoft Office and scheduling tools).
- Experience collecting and maintaining records in a database.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers via phone, email, and text.
- Experience in scheduling is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- RID certification or equivalent interpreting credentials.
- Experience in interpreter coordination or related fields.
- Knowledge of sign language interpreting standards, ethics, and best practices.

Work Environment
