- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Keeps to assigned schedule.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Attends all scheduled meetings for the purpose of physicals, safety and run selections.
- Observes all contractual obligations.
- Does occasional pickup and delivery of materials for the district.
- Assist in preparation, maintenance, and/or construction of athletic fields and areas designated for clearing, weeding and lining.
- Operate power-driven tools and equipment such as saws, compressors, drills, mixers, pumps, and mowers.
- Uses hand tools such as shovels, scythes, forks, and rakes in grounds, maintenance and beautification work.
- Loads and unloads trucks and stacks materials and supplies.
- Assists in erecting or assembling snow fences, barricades, picnic tables and recreation equipment.
- Performs general cleanup work such as removing debris, raking leaves, cutting grass and weeds, shoveling snow, assisting in collection of rubbish and litter from school lands and facilities.

REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor/Superintendent of Building and Grounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess the appropriate level New York State Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (“P”) and School (“S”) endorsements at the time of application and must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
In addition, if transporting children on a school bus, candidate must satisfy requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Title , 156.3
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions. Ability to make minor repairs to vehicle; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along with children; working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities; dependability; mechanical aptitude. Other duties as assigned.
