Position Summary:
The Director of Advancement reports directly to the President and works to achieve volunteer and financial resources necessary to achieve the school’s short-term and long-term goals. The Director of Advancement serves as the major gifts officer and is responsible for leading a seven-member team that works closely with Salpointe's governing bodies, alumni, parents and the Southern Arizona community to build and sustain a positive brand image and strong support for the school, including tuition assistance, tax credit contributions, giving campaigns, planned gifts, endowment, and major gifts. This individual must understand and value the school’s mission, goals, programs and needs, and enthusiastically represent these to various school stakeholders through effective and creative programs. This person must also understand the public perceptions of the school and represent these, as appropriate, to school administration. This is a full-time position with the approved school benefits, two weeks of paid vacation and relocation.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Leadership
- Effectively and passionately represent and articulate the school’s mission and goals.
- Provide leadership to the school’s advancement program.
- Work with the President to continuously refine and strengthen the school’s foundational case for support, advancement program philosophy and methodology.
- Provide support and counsel to the President regarding mission effectiveness and institutional leadership.
- Formulate an Annual Advancement Plan which outlines the strategy for securing the funds required for the school’s and foundation’s strategic plans.
- Lead communication and engagement efforts to ensure community-wide understanding of the school’s mission and to encourage support.
- Represent Advancement to the school’s Board of Directors.
Fundraising
- Develop, implement, and lead a comprehensive advancement program with articulated philosophy and strategies as well as measurable annual objectives in support of the school’s and foundation’s strategic plans.
- Responsible for the ownership and continuing evolution of the Advancement action items within the overall SCHS Strategic Plan.
- Provide active leadership in the planning and conducting of comprehensive programs to build engagement in and support for school programs.
- Cultivate, manage and solicit a significant group of major prospects.
- Ensure that all appropriate advancement staff (including the President) have appropriate portfolios of prospective donors to cultivate, solicit and steward.
- Provide ongoing support to the President in making donor solicitations.
- Ensure the number and quality of donor solicitations being made is commensurate with the school’s strategic goals and the goals of the Advancement Plan.
- Achieve specific and highly measurable revenue goals through solicitation of all groups of constituents and stakeholders.
- Engage board members, major donors and other key volunteers in cultivation and solicitation efforts.
- Serve as Executive Director of the Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation. Guide and direct the fundraising activities of the Foundation and its board in coordination with established committees. Attend all SCEF board meetings and committee meetings.
Marketing Communications
- Provide leadership to the Marketing and Communications Manager responsible for planning and implementing the integrated marketing strategy (digital and print channels) for the school to support brand image, public relations, admissions and fundraising goals.
Advancement Office
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Advancement team, focusing on best practices, team building, enhancement of existing revenue streams, envisioning and implementing new revenue ideas and sources.
- Provide and execute a plan to identify, recruit and retain sufficient staff and volunteers to execute Advancement and institutional strategic plans.
- Refine and/or develop a comprehensive institutional advancement program to include effective annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, alumni and special events programs.
- Supervise, support and care for Advancement staff in ways consistent with Catholic principles, Carmelite values and the school mission.
- Oversee the annual preparation and regular maintenance of Advancement operating budgets.
- Ensure that suitable collateral materials, consistent with the school’s overall marketing strategy, are produced as necessary to support the achievement of development goals.
- Ensure that the school maintains accurate and complete records necessary to evaluate, strategize, cultivate, solicit and steward the school’s donors and prospective donors.
- Support and enhance the prospective donor identification, research and qualification process to help the school achieve its strategic goals.
- Ensure that an annual segmentation of the database is completed and supports all solicitations in a coherent manner.
- Provide the President with a list of appropriate prospects and recommended strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Ensure that special events are in place and designed to identify, cultivate and solicit donors appropriate to their capacity and interests.
- Ensure that donor assignments and outcomes are documented to support future solicitations appropriate to the donor’s capacity and interests.
Board of Directors
- Work closely with the Advancement Committee chairperson to meet the board’s mission and charter.
- Assist the President and the Board Governance Committee in effectively staffing the Board of Directors and subcommittees.
- Assist the President in ongoing Board education and development, monitoring individual board member participation in Advancement efforts.
- Oversee the preparation of Advancement reports for the Board of Directors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent demonstrated leadership and communication skills and strong relationship-building capability.
- Demonstrated success in institutional fund development.
- Experience with and knowledge of comprehensive institutional advancement programming.
- Ten years of experience in the Advancement/Development field preferred.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field and disciplinary certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of Blackbaud platforms (Raiser’s Edge), Google Workspace and other appropriate software.
- Proven ability to inspire constituents to make and honor commitments.
- Measurable history of successfully leading or contributing to a team effort.
- AZ State Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
