Position Summary :
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Culinary Arts Teacher who will lead high school students in preparing them for the culinary demands of college life. The focus will be on teaching meal prepping techniques, basic nutrition, and cost-effective cooking methods tailored for busy college students. This teacher will be responsible for creating a curriculum that emphasizes both cooking skills and the practical, time-saving meal strategies needed for students transitioning from high school to college.
Duties Include :
- Curriculum Development and Instruction :
Design and implement a curriculum that focuses on meal prepping, time management in the kitchen, and nutritional basics for college students.
Teach students how to plan and prepare easy-to-make, healthy, and budget-friendly meals.
Incorporate lessons on meal portioning, safe food storage, and meal storage techniques (freezing, refrigerating, etc.).
Integrate lessons on kitchen safety, food sanitation, and basic culinary techniques.
Conduct interactive, hands-on cooking lessons where students will prepare various meals suitable for college students.
Guide students through the process of preparing multiple meals at once, teaching them how to create balanced meal plans for an entire week.
Encourage students to experiment with flavors, textures, and ingredients while ensuring that meals are nutritious and practical.
Discuss common cooking challenges that college students face, such as limited kitchen space, busy schedules, and tight budgets.
Teach students how to use basic kitchen appliances (e.g., blenders, microwaves, and air fryers) effectively in a dorm or small apartment setting.
Help students plan meals that can be easily scaled, stored, and reheated to accommodate busy college schedules.
Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to develop a passion for cooking and healthy eating.
Provide individual or group support to students who need extra help with meal prepping or other culinary skills.
Regularly assess student progress through projects, meal prep assignments, and practical cooking tests.
Provide constructive feedback on students’ culinary techniques and meal planning abilities.
Work with other educators to integrate cross-disciplinary learning about food, health, and well-being.
Stay up to date with trends in healthy eating, meal prepping, and nutrition for young adults.
Ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment for all students, following proper food handling and safety protocols.
Maintain and organize kitchen equipment, ingredients, and supplies for student use.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Education :
A degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Nutrition, or a related field.
Teaching certification or experience in an educational setting required.
Experience :
Proven experience as a chef or culinary instructor, with a strong background in meal prepping, cooking for efficiency, and healthy eating.
Experience working with high school students or in an educational environment is required.
Skills :
Strong knowledge of meal planning, meal prepping techniques, and basic nutrition.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire students.
Ability to manage classroom dynamics and provide hands-on, practical instruction.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with various skill levels.
