Salsa’s Mexican Caribbean Grill Server Position Description:
Reports to: Manager-On-Duty
Job Description: Professional server who takes pride in all aspects of restaurant service. Open the restaurant in a timely manner by performing all opening side-work duties, to include any extra tasks designated by Manager-On-Duty or other management staff. Assist guests through an extensive menu to provide optimum guest experience, while performing all designated running side-work, along with any other tasks identified by Manager-On-Duty in order to maintain optimum flow of restaurant. Also performs all assigned closing side-work and assists other servers, and Manager-On-Duty, in order to close efficiently and leave as a team, (NO EXCEPTIONS!)
Basic Functions:
· Arrive on time, dressed and ready to work:
o If you require time outside or in the bathroom, please arrive early enough to start your job promptly at designated start times--10:00, 10:30(Sunday,) or 4:00;
o If your inherent fashion sense will now allow you to walk the streets in Salsa’s black attire, please arrive in time to change clothes/shoes in order to be ready to work at designated start times;
o Sections will be on first-come/first-choice basis, unless all servers arrive 15 minutes prior, at which time, sections will be drawn.
· Choose from available section if necessary and perform choice of available side-work.
o Avocados—verify quantity of avocados needed for shift. Scoop needed avocados into kitchen-safe containers, and cover if necessary
o Line—verify quantity of line items (mixed cheese, tofu, crema, feta, goat cheese, tortillas,) needed for shift. If business is slow, kitchen staff may request that servers clean the line between lunch and dinner shifts.
o Chips—Verify quantity of chips needed for shift and prepare as necessary. Make sure to work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure seamless preparation for both front, and back of houses.
o Bar—On shifts without scheduled bartender, all 3 sections should work collaboratively to ensure bar is opened properly, and in a timely manner.
o Menus—On-shift MODs are to ensure that menus are printed, and new items entered into Aloha. Servers are responsible for folding menus, as well as placing in the window for guests.
· Work collaboratively as a team throughout the shift to ensure all running side-work is maintained, and that servers have the necessities to provide proper service:
o Section 1:
§ Ensure bathrooms are maintained properly, to include, paper products, soap, and cleanliness of toilets. Maintaining throughout the shift will expedite your closing side-work;
o Section 2:
§ Ensure that all clean glasses are carried to the bar and stacked in designated location. Please carry all glass racks back to service area. DO NOT drop and run OR leave empty glass racks in the bar. Also ensure that ice strainer is emptied regularly
o Section 3: Ensure that recycle bin located in server station is emptied when necessary. To the best of your ability, please keep water pitchers full and hot sauce bottles married throughout the shift.
· As keeping up with clean glassware can be a full-time task in-and-of itself, it is up to ALL sections to run glassware to the bar and return empty racks.
· Running hot food is a priority. Please do your best to keep up with your tables’ progression, and even more importantly, please work as part of a team and run your co-worker’s hot food to ensure service continues to move properly. Remember, you will need that same favor when you return to your table.
