Location: Salt Lake Arts Academy, 844 S. 200 E., Salt Lake City, Utah

Position Overview: Salt Lake Arts Academy seeks a dynamic and creative Drama Teacher for grades 5-8. The ideal candidate will inspire students of all levels to engage in the performing arts while helping students build confidence, creativity, collaboration, and presentation skills. This educator will be adept in differentiation, teaching foundational drama techniques, facilitating performances, and integrating with other core teachers.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Engagement & Growth:
- Create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel supported in taking creative risks.
- Foster students’ emotional and social growth through collaborative theater practices.
- Encourage participation in extracurricular drama activities and events.
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Implement a rigorous and engaging drama curriculum based on the , for 5th-8th graders, introducing foundational techniques and progressively building advanced skills toward productions.
- Foster creativity, confidence, and teamwork through engaging, age-appropriate activities and projects.
- Differentiate instruction to support a range of abilities, from entry-level students to those with advanced skills in drama.
Productions & Performances:
- Facilitate and direct student productions that showcase student growth and talent.
- Organize school-wide and community events, inviting family and local audiences to celebrate students' work.
- Integrate storytelling, acting, and performance as tools to connect with broader Academic content and school community themes.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with colleagues schoolwide to create interdisciplinary projects that enrich students’ learning.
- Partner with the arts department to integrate drama with other artistic disciplines.
- Actively participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.
Communication & Community Building:
- Maintain clear, proactive communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Serve as a visible and engaged member of the school community, promoting the value of the arts.
- Act as an advocate for the arts and its positive impact on student development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theater Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Utah teaching license or ability to obtain licensure.
- Proven experience teaching drama, with a strong foundation in drama techniques, including acting, directing, improvisation, and script analysis.
- Experience in arts-integrated education.
- Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate theatrical productions, from casting, costumes, lighting, and performance.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Possesses flexibility and creativity and a genuine enjoyment of children.
