Job Summary
The Facilities Supervisor for the Grounds department at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) oversees and manages grounds and landscaping operations across multiple campus locations. This role requires a blend of leadership, horticultural knowledge, and practical skills to maintain the safety and beauty of the grounds year-round. Responsibilities include leading a team of Groundskeepers, planning and executing landscaping maintenance activities such as turf maintenance, mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, mulching, and planting. The Supervisor also handles the application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, and manages various plants, bushes, tree care and irrigation.
Additionally, the Facilities Supervisor assists the Grounds Director and Manager with personnel decisions, operational oversight, and the development of landscape operations playbooks and SOPs. They contribute to capital planning for irrigation upgrades, equipment advancements, hardscape improvements, and landscaping modifications. The role involves moderate physical effort and must be available to work on call for snow removal and sprinkler system emergencies, working under various weather conditions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
This position is considered an advanced groundskeeper or supervisory level role but also involves performing all duties of groundskeeper positions as needed. Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervisor oversight of employee work, make assignments, oversee equipment and safety, performance management, time sheet approval, oversight on Sprocket orders and work schedules.
- Assist the Grounds Director with other duties as necessary.
- Learn and train supporting staff with safety and job performance.
- Maintain grounds to include watering grass, flowers, and shrubs, transplanting / planting sod, flowers, shrubs, and trees, weeding flower and shrub beds, litter removal, and general equipment maintenance.
- Prune trees, shrubs and perennials, prepare annual beds, and apply fiber mulch to tree wells.
- Perform weed control in accordance with Integrated Pest Management Strategies.
- Remove dead or hazard trees and shrubs.
- Remove snow and ice at SLCC campus locations. Areas include parking lots, sidewalks, handicap ramps, and roadways.
- Apply ice melt in designated locations.
- Operate and maintain equipment associated with snow removal job duties.
- Perform sprinkler emergency repair work on a 24-hour, 365 days on call bases at SLCC campus locations.
- Open, complete, and close out work orders in the Sprocket system.
- Enter time worked and order materials.
- Enter time for full time and part employees.
- Complete all College required training courses and safety courses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
