What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Custom Training position at Salt Lake Community College?
This position plays a key role in Custom Training Solutions by collaborating with local companies and agencies to assess leadership development and employee training needs. The ideal candidate will have sales and account management experience, with the ability to identify skill gaps and training requirements. They will be responsible for developing effective training solutions; recruiting and managing qualified instructors; and promoting training programs with professional materials.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Sales & Business Development:
- Promote and present training services to potential clients, demonstrating a clear understanding of their benefits and value.
- Generate and manage leads to meet or exceed targets.
- Primary point of contact for assigned client portfolio, providing support throughout the training process to ensure high levels of satisfaction and continued partnership.
- Maintain accurate client and training records.
Client Outreach & Relationship Building:Identify, contact, and establish relationships with local companies, industry and public entities to understand their specific training and development needs.
Program Development & Delivery:
- Conduct thorough assessments of training needs by consulting with company stakeholders to determine skill gaps, development priorities, and workforce requirements.
- Collaborate internally and externally to provide/create training solutions aligned with clients’ needs, industry standards, and best practices.
- Recruit, hire and supervise highly qualified trainers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a business-related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in direct, paid, full-time related work experience.
OR
- Five (5) years of experience in direct, paid, full-time related work experience, including at least one year of successful, professional sales-related OR account management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience in developing industry relationships and/or leading collaborative training efforts.
- Professional leadership training and/or course development experience.
Knowledge
- Workforce development trends and training needs assessment techniques.
- Principles and practices of employee training and development.
- Awareness of industry trends in leadership training and employee development.
- Sales and negotiation techniques to facilitate mutually beneficial agreements for training solutions.
Skills
- Analytical skills to assess an organization’s training needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in consultative sales, building relationships, and effectively communicating the value of training programs to customers.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and experience with other relevant software applications.

- Collaboration with company representatives to identify skill gaps and training objectives.
- Strong ability to identify and engage potential clients in need of training and development solutions.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects or assignments.
- Customize leadership training solutions to meet the unique needs of an organization.

- Adapt to changing priorities, systems, processes, and evolving programmatic or customer needs.
- Monitor and evaluate training outcomes and recommend improvements.
- Understand organizational policies and procedures, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
