What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Associate I, Onboarding position at Salt Lake Community College?
The Onboarding Program Associate I is a member of the Human Resources & People & Workplace Culture department. This position will serve, welcome, and support new employees at Salt Lake Community College. This position will assist in organizing and facilitating new employee onboarding and ensure employee records are completed in an accurate and timely manner ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Coordinating Employee Records:
- Schedule and conduct I-9 verification appointments in a friendly and informative manner.
- Review/process/track new hire onboarding forms to ensure they have been completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Coordinating records and information into a variety of databases and systems in an accurate and timely manner.
- Identify, fix, enter tickets and follow-up with a third-party company regarding account errors within the onboarding system.
- Assist employees through the onboarding system and address employees’ concerns regarding the system or the onboarding process.
- Generate and deliver various reports from the onboarding system.
Communication and Support:
- Follow established Onboarding practices and communicate policy, procedures and practices with departments.
- Ensure I-9 federal requirements are met.
- Collaborate with the HR team and supervisors to ensure new hire information is processed accurately.
- Answer general onboarding questions from college departments and new hires.
- Provide instruction and clarification to new employees regarding college policies and procedures, and the completion of onboarding forms.
- Collaborate with other Higher Education Institutions and their HR Teams as an I-9 representative of SLCC.
- Assist Onboarding Coordinator to develop and revise templates, documents, and onboarding guidelines.
- Engage in professional development and educational activities that improve knowledge and skills necessary to perform job responsibilities.
Projects and Events Support:
- Support People and Workplace Culture and assist onboarding coordinator with organizing and facilitating various new hire engagement initiatives, orientations, and development opportunities such as New Employee Orientations, Bruin Beginnings, and the First Year Experience etc.
- Assist onboarding coordinator with researching onboarding and employee experience best practices, create surveys, and provide feedback to existing processes and forms.
- Assist onboarding coordinator with process improvements and share with other colleagues within the Onboarding & Employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED with 3 years’ experience in Business/HR setting.
OR
- Associate degree with 2 years’ experience in Business/HR setting.
Note: Part-time experience will be considered towards Full-time years, if applicable.
- Experience with higher education.
- Familiarity with federal form I-9 and other new hire paperwork.

- Knowledge of documentation needed to hire international students/employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
This is a part time position up to 30 hours per week, not to exceed 125 hours per month.
