Under general supervision the instructor will teach various Sociology classes within the Sociology program.
Faculty member may be assigned to any SLCC location.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Effectively prepare and teach classes to facilitate student learning.

2. Assess and maintain records of student performance.

3. Develop, distribute to students and adhere to course outlines and/or syllabi.

4. Completes all required employee trainings; participates in other professional development opportunities and department trainings, when possible.

5. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Division, School, and College mission and values.

6. Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration, and with people of diverse backgrounds.

7. Demonstrate a depth of understanding in the field of Sociology.

8. Demonstrate commitment to professional development and significant contributions in the Sociology Department.

9. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.

10. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.

11. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.

12. Accept other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
1. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority
given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators,
and departments throughout the organization.
2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs
students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by
published deadlines.
7. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
8. Follows and abides by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
9. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‐2 days).
10. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College
procedure.
11. Visits with hiring supervisor or full-time faculty mentor at least once per semester.
12. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
13. Administer ADA accommodations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in Sociology (or closely-related field) from accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience teaching at the college level.
2. PhD in Sociology
3. Research experience.

1. Demonstrated Sociology teaching experience.
2. Knowledge of the instructional program.
3. Innovative and flexible working style.
4. Effective team member and supportive of College, School and Department policies, procedures and goals.
5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture,
ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the
College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic,
cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester by
semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30
days of hire.
3) In accordance with Board of Regents policy, SLCC’s Human Resources will
conduct a criminal background check on instructors if concurrent enrollment (K-12)
students are assigned to classes.
