Salt Lake Community College (SLCC)'s Prison Education Program (PEP) provides a model for inclusive and transformative education in the lives of incarcerated students. The program operates upon the principle of open enrollment, accepting students above the age of eighteen who have earned either a High School diploma or a GED. Through higher education, the PEP changes the way incarcerated students see themselves as individuals and as members of the larger community.The Specialist is expected to oversee and maintain accurate records with the following SLCC departments : Admissions, Office of the Registrar and Records, Financial Aid Services, and Accessibility and Disability Services. The Specialist must ensure that the program follows policy and procedures with these college systems, and this position handles a high volume of work using digital and paper files, data entry, e-mail, and phone calls. The Specialist is extremely detail-oriented and accurate, and able to problem solve, make knowledgeable decisions, and may have to multi-task frequently. The Specialist is also responsible for helping to enforce Federal, State and College academic regulations and policies such as FERPA, Title XI, ADAAA and Section 504, Veteran and Internal compliance.- - Assists the PEP team with the processing of student records and data with the admissions department and the Office of the Registrar and Records. - Assists Financial Aid Services and Accessibility and Disability Services with providing assistance to PEP students. These duties will include assisting students with the admissions process, course registration, processing adds, drops, and withdrawals from PEP courses, assisting Financial Aid Services in helping PEP students complete FAFSA, and assisting accessibility and disability services with identifying student needs and meeting those needs.Works with faculty and the PEP team with the maintenance of PEP websites and social media communications.Communicates with faculty to ensure textbooks for classes are purchased and maintain inventory of PEP education assets.Assists PEP students with graduation applications, delivery of diplomas to PEP students, and coordination of graduation ceremonies with the Utah Department of Corrections.Communicates to faculty and the Utah Department of Corrections about course rosters and student attendance in PEP courses.Communicates with PEP students using approved Utah Department of Corrections systems to answer questions regarding SLCC processes.Other duties as assigned.
