Under direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal assists the Principal in performing duties that ensure the learning, growth, achievement, and safety of all students.


Primary Job Functions:  Primary functions may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and abilities among other characteristics.  This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.

Student Relations

  • Ensures administration of and provides direct oversight and implementation of student rights and responsibilities, and expectations of students as incorporated in the student handbook.
  • Assists with discipline of students and works with teachers, students, and parents to resolve discipline issues.
  • Coordinates and supervises student activities including but not limited to: club activities, student government, and assemblies and programs.

Faculty and Staff Relations

  • Supervises, evaluates, and coordinates assigned certificated and classified personnel.
  • Conducts grade/content level meetings with assigned grade/content levels.

Instructional Support

  • Assists with monitoring and supporting teaching and learning, and staff development.
  • Participates in instructional improvement activities.

Administrative Functions

  • Assists in hiring process for faculty and support staff.
  • Acts as Principal during Principal’s absence
  • Assists with supervision of maintenance of campus facilities.
  • Manages a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations. 
  • Confers with parents, faculty and staff to identify solutions to academic and personal problems of students.
  • Participates as a member of various school, system (district), and Community committees and/or events.
  • Monitors bus pick up, arrival and departure times.
  • Coordinates and schedules supervision duties.
  • Assists with data collection, analysis and progress report preparation as needed.

Parent and Community Involvement

  • Works with parents and community to promote the school.

Other

  • Schedules and attends after school hour events.
  • Uses vehicle to drive to and from various program sites, off site meetings and events.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by Principal or Superintendent.
  • Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the SRPMIC Education Division Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

 

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Other Characteristics

  • The History, culture, traditions, and customs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community

 

Knowledge of: 

  • Developmental learning process and special education guidelines and laws
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Skilled in:

  • Data collection, data analysis and report writing 
  • Organizational skills with strong experience in staff scheduling
  • Verbal and written communication 
  • Presentation skills
  • Interpersonal interactions

 

Ability to:

  • Be a visionary who is committed to the school mission and vision statement
  • Remain calm and maintain a professional demeanor under extreme stress
  • Occasionally lift/ and or move up to 50 lbs

Five (5) years classroom teaching experience.  Previous successful administrative experience preferred.   Experience working with Native American students preferred.  Demonstrated experience and competency in areas of:  personnel supervision, educational planning, participative management, effective teaching and learning styles, leadership development, and school climate development.  Must hold a valid Arizona Administrator certificate.

 

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.


Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

Driving Requirement:  This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive an SRPMIC vehicle for work related community business must receive authorization to do so.  For clarification, work related community business includes driving to and from SRPMIC government sites and buildings.

Terms of Employment:  This position is treated as a full-time exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week.  

Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test and extensive Fingerprint and Background Check. Employee is Subject to Random Drug Testing and completion of a Background Check every five (5) years.
