What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Finish Installer I position at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community?
Definition: Under general supervision from a Building Maintenance Supervisor, installs and repairs a variety of floor coverings and building finishes including tile, carpet, paint, suspended ceilings, and wall coverings in tribally owned buildings in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.
Essential Functions: (Essential functions may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.)1. Installs and repairs a variety of floor coverings including VCT, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, roll carpet, carpet tile, vinyl plank, wood, and laminate.
2. Installs and repairs a variety of wall coverings including waterproofing, tile, stone, paints, and wall papers.
3. Installs and repairs suspended ceiling systems.
4. Properly removes existing floor and wall coverings and prepares substrates for re-installation of products.
5. Performs basic building maintenance and repair tasks, including changing light bulbs, painting, and basic carpentry. Tracks and maintains work requests utilizing work order software as needed.
6. Assists in remodels of existing buildings by removing paint and/or paneling, knocking down non-load bearing walls, installing, taping, and painting, sheet rock, flooring, wall coverings and ceilings. Hauls trash from project to landfill.
7. Maintains safe and clean working environment by ensuring all work areas are clean, free of all tools, parts and equipment before leaving the job site.
8. Performs other related job duties, as assigned, that enhance and facilitate program operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
Experience: 6 months full time work experience as a flooring and building finishes installer.
Equivalency – Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required may be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications. Special Requirements – Successful completion of a background investigation is required for hire. A more extensive background investigation and fingerprint will be required for candidates considered for hire to work in our Education or Early Childhood Education facilities. Candidates that will come in contact with children in our Early Childhood Education Program must also provide proof of immunizations at time of hire, and will be required to maintain booster shots on immunizations and take a TB skin test or x-ray annually.
Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.

- Knowledge of wall coverings including waterproofing systems, tile, and wall papers.
- Knowledge of suspended ceiling installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance and repair procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry practices.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with building maintenance, installations and repairs.
- Skill completing basic building maintenance/repair and remodeling projects.
- Skill following oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
- Ability to move heavy objects between 20-50 pounds or more long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Ability to use work order software to track work order requests.
- Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually.
- Ability to work in cramp spaces and dusty or extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to reach high work areas by climbing, ladders, steps, or using scaffolding.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Ability to lift arms above shoulder to perform work tasks.
- Ability to read and use blueprints, layouts, or visual aids.
- Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually.
