Definition: Under direct supervision from the Carpentry Supervisor, provides skilled carpentry services in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) construction and maintenance projects. Assists in inspection, installation and construction and repairs of structural woodwork in accordance with building and safety code regulations. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-exempt and considered a DRIVING position.

13. Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of general policies, procedures and standards followed in construction trades.
- Knowledge of current OSHA rules and regulations; knowledge of current building and safety codes.
- Knowledge of proper use of carpentry equipment and tools, including entry-level knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
- Knowledge of carpentry methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment related to construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.
- Knowledge of carpentry principles, concepts and practices related to construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings and SRPMIC infrastructure.
- Skill and accuracy in measuring, cutting and fastening lumber, drywall, roofing and trim in the construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.
- Skill in the proper inspection, installation and repair of carpentry fixtures and equipment.
- Skill in safely operating electrical/power/manual tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in dirt and dusty conditions.
- Ability to work in weather-exposed situation.
- Ability to work at heights up to 50 feet.
- Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Ability to lift, stand, bend, stoop and carry objects, including but not limited to carpentry tools, materials and equipment, weighing 50 - 90 pounds and to otherwise physically perform and complete carpentry tasks as directed by supervisor.
Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years’ post-apprenticeship carpentry experience. Must provide own tool belt, bags, and standard carpenter’s hand tools. Must have reliable transportation, clean driving record.
- For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
