Kayak Rental Associate | Fun, flexible side gig on weekends
About Us:
Salty Dog Kayak Rentals is built on a passion for adventure, nature, and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. Located in Port Richey, just 50 minutes north of Tampa on the Gulf, we operate within the breathtaking Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park. We offer locals and visitors the chance to explore Florida’s unspoiled beauty by kayak and canoe, where they can weave through mangrove islands, inlets, and bayous that are home to diverse wildlife.
Overview:
We're looking for a quick learner with an upbeat attitude who thrives in the outdoors, enjoys engaging with people, and is seeking a fun, flexible side gig for the spring and summer season.
This role requires someone who can embrace Florida’s elements—heat, mosquitoes, and unexpected rain—while maintaining a positive, can-do mindset. You must also be comfortable lifting and cleaning heavy kayaks and canoes, as well as helping guests get safely on the water by providing guidance and assistance with equipment.
This is a part-time, seasonal position running from March 1st through August 1st, with fluctuating demand based on reservations and weather conditions.
Shifts typically take place between 8:30 am and 1:30 pm, primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. However, hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on tides, weather, and guest bookings.
This position is ideal for someone seeking a fun, active side job rather than consistent weekly income.
Qualifications:
- Able to lift 100 pounds and move heavy kayaks and canoes throughout the shift
- Comfortable with physically demanding tasks, including carrying equipment, cleaning gear, and assisting guests in and out of kayaks
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions for the entire shift
- High-energy and outgoing, with a strong focus on customer service and guest interaction
- Able to speak confidently and effectively to communicate safety information
- Strong situational awareness and ability to identify and handle high-risk situations
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude, even in challenging conditions
- Applicants with local knowledge, outdoor experience, or CPR/First Aid certification may be given preference
- All applicants must adhere to a drug-free and tobacco-free workplace policy
