DESCRIPTION OF POSITION : Under the direction of the Coordinator of Categorical and English Language Learner Program, the Bilingual Tutor helps the limited English proficient student acquire English proficiency and make academic progress by providing academic instructional support in the primary language of the student.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES :
- Assist new students and / or the parents of the new students, explaining school procedures and providing "survival" information.
- Assess the primary language skills of the student in order to determine appropriate instructional support.
- Coordinate efforts with the classroom teacher to ensure that relevant and appropriate support is provided.
- Help the student understand classroom assignments, including instructions and directions.
- Translate text materials, help the student with study skills and test-taking skills.
- Assist parents and teachers to communicate about school-related concerns.
- Assist the student with school-wide problems that might arise.
- Help monitor student progress and provide encouragement and support to students.
- Other related duties as assigned.
