Store Manager

The Store Manager will create and sustain a pleasant and hospitable work environment and excellent customer and donor relationships in order to motivate staff and meet sales goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible to create a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer and donor relationships.

2. Be well-versed in, and ensure compliance to, Guide to Thrift Store & Donation Centers Operations manual and all other policies and procedure by all store personnel. (To include verbal and written warnings).

3. Meet sales, production, and expense budget goals to maintain a profitable operation.

4. Ensure that all production is taken from the production area and properly displayed on the sales floor.

5. Receive applications, participate in interviewing of applicants when needed, and recommend applicants for employment to the Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designate.

6. Conduct regular evaluations of store personnel and production personnel, identifying performance strengths and areas of development. Recommend training as necessary.

7. Conduct monthly staff and safety meetings. Ensure that all safety measures are consistent with The Salvation Army policy and Government regulations and all personnel are in compliance.

8. Schedule all sales associates (and unpaid staff) and production staff to ensure full coverage in store and production area at all times. Post weekly work schedules for all store and production area personnel. This must include assignment, breaks, vacation, etc.

9. Submit completed payroll information biweekly for all store and production area personnel noting signatures, absenteeism, overtime, etc.

10. Responsible to order merchandise to keep the store well stocked. Ensure all merchandise is “ragged out” and colorized in accordance with the Territorial ARC Rag Out Calendar.

11. Provide training, direction, and supervision for new employees (and unpaid staff) along with retraining for all personnel, as necessary.

12. Responsible for the proper accounting and banking of cash receipts at end of business day. Safeguard cash at all times. See “Safekeeping of Salvation Army Funds” policy.

13. Ensure that all paper work and sales reports are completed and forwarded to the finance department daily.

14. Report to Administrator any site visits and/or communication from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) Fire/Building/City/Town/Local inspector. Verify inspector credentials by getting business card and contact details to forward to Administrator.

15. Attend manager meetings and production meetings and keep store personnel informed of new policies and directives.

16. Responsible for protection of property and buildings. Report safety hazards, property damage and personal injuries to Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designate.

17. Provide oversight and guidance to beneficiaries assigned to store or production area for work therapy.

18. This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing to beneficiaries; an example of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).

19. In production areas with truck and bailing operations, supervise the Warehouse Coordinator.

20. Other duties as may be assigned by Store Supervisor and/or Administrator for Business.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Experience in sales preferred.

3. Ability to lead, manage and motivate others.

4. Ability to read and interpret simple income and expense reports.

5. Excellent communication skills.

6. Flexibility and willingness to work in any store location under the supervision of this ARC Center.
