Landscaper

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of grounds keeping work in order to maintain the health and beautification of grounds; mows and edges grass, trims trees/shrubs, blows leaves and debris from sidewalks. Performs preventive and ongoing maintenance of athletic fields; monitors and maintains irrigation systems to ensure appropriate functionality.

Mows and weeds grass; edges lawns, sidewalks, and curbs to ensure beautification of the property and welcoming and safe grounds.

Rakes, vacuums, and blows leaves and debris from sidewalks and parking lots.

Closely monitors athletic fields to align with vendor contract and product specifications; adheres to all standards of care to thoroughly maintain turf.

Performs annual preventative services to include aeration, seeding, and treatment applications.

Cuts-down trees; fills holes with dirt; trims trees and bushes; splits wood.

Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, etc.; moves flower beds; seeds new grass.

Monitors plants, lawn and fields for pest management needs; applies herbicide and ensures proper fertilization to maximize beautification efforts.

Collects and discards debris and trash from grounds.

Inspects grounds regularly to detect needed repairs or unsafe conditions.

Ensures water systems and sprinklers are properly operating at all facilities.

Tests, monitors, and repairs irrigation and drainage systems; makes recommendations to supervisor regarding necessary changes to ensure the life of equipment.

Oversees preventative maintenance of Salvation Army lawn equipment; monitors and replenishes all fluid levels; recommends replacement of equipment whenever necessary and evaluates new equipment for its durability and value.

Other Responsibilities:

Cleans gutters of building as needed.

Assists in performing custodial and maintenance work as needed.

Utilizes computer database to receive and document completed preventive maintenance related to warrantied equipment and products.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers and power lawn mowers.

Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

Ability to perform general maintenance on grounds in a safe manner.

Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely and in accordance with all laws and regulations.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or G.E.D., preferably with supplemental courses in lawn care and grounds maintenance,

and

One year experience performing grounds keeping work,

Or

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Ability to use a computer and be familiar with database/data entry methods.

Job Type: Full-time
