BASIC PURPOSE

The Music Instructor provides a nurturing and safe environment for individuals to embark on a journey of music and instrument learning. With a focus on elementary students and youth, the instructor conducts group lessons under the guidance of Corps Officers and the Education Center Supervisor, ensuring that students have a secure and loving space to discover the joys of music.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in planning and preparing lesson plans with the music teacher.

Instruct children through piano and / or drum demonstrations.

Track students’ progress through the music program and conduct assessments of students’ musical skills.

Prepare students for performances and concerts.

Create and maintain an engaging and effective learning environment where students can flourish and develop their musical abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Experience teaching music or related courses to elementary age students.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Patience and resilience in handling challenging students.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to motivate students to learn.

Bilingual in English and Chinese preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

The candidate must either be currently enrolled in a music major at an educational institution or hold a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in music education or a closely related field.

Must be age 18 or above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

Ability to grasp, push, and / or pull objects.

Ability to reach overhead.

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
