Job Summary:

The Concrete Superintendent is a person who plans and ensures the coordination of concrete construction and has the responsibility of supervising the concrete portions of the project. The Concrete Superintendent must be well-versed in concrete forming methodologies and procedures and able to coordinate projects with respective team of external contractors to achieve the planned results. The Superintendent ensures that quality work is being put into place, the schedule is being maintained, and that the budget is followed as planned. Responsibilities are all encompassing of the total supervision of all the concrete operations on the site to ensure that the workers are implementing what is designed, project is completed on time, and that safety and company standards are met. Concrete Superintendents work hand in hand with the subcontractors to assure accurate and timely sequencing of the project that best benefits Concrete Strategies and the job. Concrete Superintendent also coordinates daily with the Senior Superintendent as well as successful project communication and execution.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and oversee all onsite concrete and processes.
  • Ability to effectively supervise construction employees and to accomplish work within budget and schedule while meeting multiple deadlines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordination with Senior Superintendent for all concrete schedules and operations.
  • Daily communications/coordination with the Project Team to ensure successful project communication and execution.
  • Source, select, and oversee workers who complete specific pieces of the project.
  • Investigate damage, accidents, errors or delays on-site to ensure that proper procedures are being followed to ensure work is being carried out in a safe, logical and productive manner.
  • Ensuring that the budget is followed in terms manpower productions and material expenditures.
  • Organizing and scheduling the field labor and ensuring that they are performing as required
  • Coordinates with other subcontractors and ensures proper planning and work harmony.
  • Ensure that quality is preserved in the concrete construction process and that the budget is maintained
  • Estimating materials costs, labor costs, and other costs associated with the project.
  • Tracking and reporting project progress on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Tracking and accurately capturing/reporting time for the field manpower they oversee.
  • Continuously monitor productivity and percentage complete, identifying problems and potential delays, and provide solutions to overcome any delays or challenges
  • Complies with all SAM safety policies and wear proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones.

Education and Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in commercial concrete forming industry required.
  • Experience with rebar placement.
  • Proven working experience in construction management.
  • In-depth understanding of concrete forming procedures and material and project management principles.
  • Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
  • Comfortable reading and understanding blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to plan and see the “big picture.”
  • A team player with leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture principles.
  • High degree of familiarity with contract and subcontract documents, terms, and conditions.
  • Bachelor degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or related field is considered an asset.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction required or have the ability to obtain.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Must reside in the Phoenix Metro area.
  • Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a hot non-climate control environment.
  • Ability to utilize SAM Construction application on a smart phone, tablet or laptop.
  • Must be experienced and able to read, understand and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, estimating, and project schedules for constructability and conflict reviews specific to Multifamily construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of the local multifamily construction industry and subcontractors.
  • Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs.
  • Understanding building permit, approval and inspection processes.
  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and partnering skills to work effectively with subcontractors, consultants, internal staff, and regulatory agencies.
  • Working Knowledge of OSHA regulations and accepted Safe Work practices for the Construction Industry.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to handle physical labor and strenuous tasks.
  • Able to stand and walk project site for extended period of times.
  • Regularly sit, talk and/or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Occasionally required to but not limited to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move at least 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.
  • May require travel.
